Patrice Lumumba, the first democratically elected leader of the Congo, spoke out against his former colonial masters, and became the victim of an international conspiracy.  Killed by firing squad in 1961, it would take over 40 years for the government who aided in his murder to apologize.

Who Killed Patrice Lumumba? documents the detective work of Belgian author and sociologist Ludo de Witte over six years as he unravels Lumumba’s murder, and identifies those responsible.

Plotted by the CIA and carried out with the help of the Belgian government, this documentary follows the trail of evidence unearthed by de Witte from Congo to Washington and Brussels for surprisingly candid interviews with CIA operative Larry Devlin and Belgian diplomat Jacques Brassinne.

Once the richest colony in Africa, today the Congo is one of the poorest countries on the continent – plundered for its mineral wealth and ravaged by war.
